Simpson is wary of FA Cup upset

Gary Simpson is fully aware that the FA Cup can cause upsets, as he prepares for the Imps game against Wocester on Saturday.

Lincoln travel to Worcester in the FA cup fourth round qualifying, after their replay win against Rugby.

Worcester play in the Skrill Conference North, the league just below Lincoln, but Simpson certainly isn’t underestimating them. He said “They got off to a sticky start, but have picked up as of late.

“They have some players who have played in higher leagues, and some quick wide players.”

Simpson isn’t underestimating his side either, saying he hoped Saturday was all about Lincoln, and how well they played.

After a good cup run last year, which almost saw Premier League giants Liverpool come to Sincil Bank, the Imps are more than capable of causing an upset, especially against teams in higher leagues. Simpson said “The FA Cup will show us some Conference teams beat League 2 teams.

“I don’t think there’s a massive difference between the leagues now, and I think it’s same with the league below.”

However, Lincoln go in to the tie with an extensive injury list. Todd Jordan is thought to be in the first stages of a hernia, and may well undergo an operation, causing him to be out for up to 5 weeks.

Simpson commented on the other injuries and missing players for the weekend, saying, “we’ve got one or two problems from the other night [Tuesday – where they played Gainsborough in the Lincolnshire Senior Cup final].

“Nick Wright has a tight hamstring and won’t be training today. Adi [Yussuf] just needs some football.

“I’m going to recall Conner [Robinson] today from Gainsborough as well.”

Lincoln travel to play Worcester at Aggborough Stadium, the home of Kidderminster Harriers, on Saturday. Kick off is 3pm.
