Lincoln County Hospital will reintroduce parking charges tomorrow following technical difficulties to their parking system.

The automatic number plate recognition system was introduced last December, but patients expressed anger and frustration on having to wait in long queues to pay.

United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust have stated that all the necessary improvements have been made and have apologised for the inconvenience caused.

A ULHT spokesperson said “We have added several new machines, additional lighting and there is now a stronger signal between the cameras and payment machines.”

“We hope this will fix any technical issue that affects the system so people and patients will be able to park normally from now on.”

Residents across social media vented their frustrations with the changes, with one saying “Charging for parking to cover the cost of parking is NHS improvement at its best. Outsourcing and privatisation of public services.”

Another vocal resident was critical about the reintroduction commenting “This really is a crime. Scotland has free parking and we pay through the nose for it.”

However, one person said the improvements were necessary saying “I understand why people would want to park for free, but at the same time, it’s unfair for people needing the hospital. They should lower the cost of parking around the city.”
