Graffiti artists transform disused Lincoln High Street shop into colourful Imps mural

Lincoln High Street has undergone a transformation, as two graffiti artists have painted a bold and colourful mural to help celebrate Lincoln. 

James Mayle and Luke St Clair-Pedroza started work on a new Lincoln Imp wall painting at the former Boots store, on November 4, and completed it on November 8.

The artwork is inspired by Lincoln’s cathedral, through the use of vibrant stained glass windows and legendary mascot, the Imp. The project is expected to bring joy to the High Street and city.

James Mayle said: “It needed to be big, bold and bright, so we came up with the idea to use a contemporary design.

“We wanted to keep with the heritage of Lincoln through the stained glass windows but then be inn keeping with the Imp.

“It’s been an awesome experience, interacting with the public and hearing so many positive comments.

“Many people have been verbally positive, and it’s made doing the work a lot better.”

The artists are from the creative studio, iMAGE SKOOL, and have previously helped brighten Lincoln by creating the mural at the Brayford underpass.

Lincoln BIG selected the painting duo to produce the new mural in the High Street, after the success of their first. They have funded the project to make the High Street look appealing to investors.

However, they are also interested to know whether people want to see more art, like murals, around Lincoln.

Sarah Loftus, Chief Executive at Lincoln BIG said: “We decided to commission an artist to get Lincoln High Street looking like a brighter place.

“The plan is to look at doing more art and bringing creativity to the town centre.”

Also, the mural is one of the initiatives being displayed to help promote the Lincoln Imps Trail 2020.
