Councillors attending Remembrance Day services every November will present poppy wreaths to the local community after a new motion was approved.
Members of North Kesteven District Council will be provided with the item so they can honour the fallen while attending different ceremonies across the area.
It comes after Councillor Adrian Whittle – a Lib Dem – put forward the proposal following his attendance at a ceremony in Billinghay last year.
He said: “I said I’d like to put a motion up that all councillors who attend a Remembrance Day service who request a wreath will be given one, to represent their district.
“My view was that if we’re meant to be representing the people and we’re meant to be representing the district, we should give that mark of respect.”
Backed by the leader of the Conservatives party, the motion was approved at a meeting on December 12 – just two days shy of Coun Whittle’s first anniversary of being elected to the council in a by-election.
He said of that victory: “I’ve always been involved with other bodies that give back to the community, so I suppose it was a natural logical progression.”
