Work has started on the new Lincoln East-West Road today.

The £22million development will link the High Street to Canwick Road and it is hoped it will lessen the amount of traffic going over the level crossing as well as opening up Tentercroft Street for regeneration.

Lincoln Central MP Karl McCartney said the project is a good example of the work the local council has done.

Mr McCartney said: “This project is a good example of how local and national government do have joined up thinking.”

One aim of the project is to ease traffic around the level crossings which go straight through the centre of the city. The project will offer an alternative route for drivers and it’s hoped this will ease congestion.

Plans for a footbridge over the level crossing are also in place and this road development should speed along this process. Also the work will create a link between St Mark’s junction to Pelham Bridge and Canwick Road via Tentercoft Street.

The work should be completed by 2016.
