A new campaign has been launched by the government to raise awareness of and combat the stigma surrounding mental health issues in children and young people.

It will focus on utilising an online hub of mental health information, as well as social media and school visits.

The Youth Mental Health Hub website will help children find accurate information about mental health conditions.

It is hoped that this will encourage young people and parents to talk more about mental health.

Meanwhile, the first survey of young people’s mental health since 2004 has been commissioned.

Nearly 10,000 people aged from two to 19 and their families will be interviewed to assess the prevalence of mental health issues.

The overall response from charities has been positive, although some have criticised the fact that the survey’s results will not be available until 2018.
