Gainsborough Trinity prepare for the upcoming Northern Premier League with a seven game pre-season schedule.

The fixture list starts with games at Club Thorne and Bottesford Town, before Scunthorpe United visit the KAL Group Stadium. A short trip to Lincoln United follows. EFL sides Barnsley and Sheffield United will then travel to The Northolme, before local side Boston United round off the pre-season campaign.

Speaking to The Linc, manager Russ Wilcox expressed how happy he was with the schedule. The 2024/25 campaign will be former Doncaster Rovers defender’s first full season at Gainsborough.

He said: “I’m delighted with what we have got on paper, that should stand us in good stead.”

The opening game of pre-season for the Holy Blues is an away trip to Doncaster’s Club Thorne on Tuesday, July 9.

The Full Dates are Below:

Of the seven fixtures, Scunthorpe United, Barnsley, Sheffield United, Boston United will visit The Northolme, with Russ Wilcox excited to face two EFL opponents.

He said: “The home games are exciting games. I don’t think we could’ve done much better with who we chose. The fixtures have been set in stone for some time, we have been working on that since March. If you don’t get your pre-season right, you can struggle.”

The Trinity players have made their return to pre-season training, doing so on Thursday, June 27, ahead of the seven game schedule.

He said: “Fingers crossed we can hit the ground running. If we did that last season, we could have maybe made a playoff spot. We want to be at the right end of the table after the first dozen games.

“It’s important, we now have an identity in how we want to play. It would be stupid to change things from what we have got since the turn of the year. The core of the group knows how I want to work. There are no guarantees that we are going to kick into gear straight away, but that’s what we want to do.”
