The number of people relying on food banks in the UK has risen, but the Lincoln Community Larder have seen a decrease in demand.

Nationally, the number of people helped by Trussel Trust’s food banks in the first half of the 2014-15 financial year is 38% higher than the same period last year.

However it seems not every food bank is experiencing this trend.

Tina James, the larder coordinator for Lincoln Community Larder said, “We have been experiencing quite a dip in demand recently; in December 2014 we had about the same numbers as we had in December 2013.

“It has surprised us that we have had less people over 2014 generally compared to the year before – maybe there has been an upturn in Lincoln which is causing it to buck the trend, but we are also worried that we may not be reaching the right people.”

To combat this, the Lincoln food bank is opening two new larders outside the city centre to try to reach more people.
