Independent pubs across Lincoln are preparing for a potential summer boost after being granted extended opening hours during the FIFA World Cup.
The ‘two-hour pub rule’ means pubs and bars can now stay open as late as 2am for evening kick-offs, following government approval.
Punter, Chris Davis, 74, said: “I love it!
“People want to get out and about more, spend money, not sat in the house just watching the box because it’s not the same as coming out and visiting people. I love going out and visiting while I can.”

Venues that show matches that start between 5pm and 9pm can stay open until 1am, and those starting later between 9pm and 10pm can stay open until 2am.
The move means fans can watch the matches without last orders cutting celebrations short.
However, things may not be rosy all around.
Charlie Jubb, interim manager at The Treaty of Commerce, said: “There’s no other option, if you want to show the football, you have to open later because the games start later.
“It can be good and it could potentially be bad.
“Obviously it means longer shifts for staff and might have a knock on effect the next day but it can’t really be helped if you want to show the football.”
The tournaments will take place from June 11, to July 19, 2026.
