Love Island star gives Lincoln students valuable mental health advice

Dr Alex George spoke about building confidence, resilience and self-esteem.

UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador and Love Island star, Dr Alex George, offered his top mental well-being tips on Lincoln Live Lounge.

The live YouTube event took place during Mental Health Awareness Week (May 9-15th) with a focus on this year’s theme which is loneliness.

Dr Alex spoke about some of his personal experiences with loneliness and other mental health struggles, as well as offering advice to viewers.

He said: “Struggling alone is something no one should do so don’t feel ashamed in any way or embarrassed. It is something to be proud of to reach out and ask for help and you have a right to it.”

This was not the first time that Dr Alex appeared on Lincoln Live Lounge to talk about mental health and he’s also visited the Lincoln campus.

Students and those considering going to university had questions answered by Dr Alex who was also joined by University of Lincoln mental health advisor, Alex Varlow.

Ms Varlow supports students with both diagnosed and undiagnosed mental health conditions and works to ensure that students are fully supported throughout their studies.

She said: “We had great interaction from the audience members who also asked really relevant questions around drug and alcohol use, exercise, body image, motivation and creating a routine.

“Dr Alex George gave some insight into his personal experience with loneliness, and the importance of recognising the difference between loneliness and being alone.”
