Tonight was Lincoln City’s newly-appointed manager Chris Moyses, first game in charge against Nuneaton Town in the Vanarama Conference at Sincil Bank Stadium.
Lincoln started the match on this chilly Tuesday night by piling on the pressure on the visitors by attacking instantly which resulted in them winning a corner but unfortunately resulted in nothing.
The visitors carried on being pressured by the Imps with Caprice causing a lot of problems coming from right back in the opening few minutes.
After City’s continuous attacks, the Nuneaton defence cracked in the seventh minute to take the lead. A low and powerful cross from Marshall resulted in a classy back-flick by Jordan Burrow in the 6th minute.
The Imps carried on dominating possession after taking the lead and it wasn’t too long until the second goal came about. A surging run by Caprice in the seventeenth minute resulted in him opening the defence up with a precise ball through to Tomlinson, who calmly slotted the ball in the back of the net to take a two nil lead.
Straight from the restart the visitors made a substitution with Gavin Cowan replacing Anthony Charles. Shortly after, Nuneaton’s first attack surfaced with them winning a free kick from 30 yards out but didn’t result in anything.
Shortly after the half-hour mark Burrows had a chance to double his tally but unfortunately fired the ball straight into Dibbles hands.
The Imps had there first scare in the thirty-seventh minute after Nuneaton’s Dawson cross caused difficulties which nearly led City’s goalkeeper Farman knocking it into his own net.
The first half dominated by the Imps, came to a close shortly afterwards with them going in to the second half with a comfortable two nil lead.
Both teams remained the same for the start of the second half and it was the visitors who came out fighting.
Ten minutes into the half Nuneaton were still trying to make an impact on the game but City’s defence were too strong for the visitors.
In the sixtieth minute after the Imps started to pressure the visitors, they were gifted a goal when Nuneaton defender Starosta headed the ball back to Dibble who made a howler to leave Burrows with an open goal to double his tally and put the Imps in a comfortable three nil lead.
It wasn’t the visitors night as Streete was gifted a chance from just six yards but somehow missed the target.
Captain Streete’s was shortly dismissed afterwards for pulling back Nolan just on the edge of the area to deny him from a one on one with Dibble. Substitute Cowan took over the captaincy with the resulting free-kick by Nolan demanding Dibble to produce a top save and tip over the curling free kick.
In the eighty ninth minute Nuneaton were awarded a consolation goal after a cross was fired across the box with substitute Cowan getting his head on to the ball to put it in the back of the net.
The match was a comfortable win for Lincoln City which increased their winning streak to three games on the trot and moved them to thirteenth in the league.
Assistant Manager, Grant Brown said, ‘‘we are disappointed not to get a clean sheet tonight but we will take the three points.’’
