A Lincolnshire primary school has opened a new learning pod to commemorate the life of a staff member who died of cancer last year.
Prafula Mistry – fondly known as Pru – worked as a teaching assistant at Ellison Boulters Church of England Academy in Scothern for 24 years.
She was much-loved and well known in the wider community for her deep commitment to children’s learning. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and died, aged 58, in July 2024.
Headteacher Suzanne Scott said: “We have been delighted to celebrate the opening of Pru’s Pod to honour our special colleague. It will be very well used pod.”
The new stand-alone facility – which looks across a playground – will be used for a range of activities including after school club projects , small group work, learning sessions and external meetings.
Deputy Headteacher, Jackie Carter said: “Pru will continue to quietly inspire us through all of our memories of the times that we shared.”
The pod was officially opened on Friday November 21.
Many of Pru’s family, including husband Bhikhu, attended the opening of the pod and said they were deeply touched by how the school was honouring her memory.
