Top Lincoln Ladies Teams Battle For County Glory

Lincoln United face Lincoln City in County Cup showdown

The two highest-ranked women’s teams in Lincolnshire are set to face each other in a fierce local derby on Sunday at Ashby Avenue in the quarter-final of the Lincolnshire County Cup.

Lincoln United enter the fixture in rich form, ‘The Whites’ have won their last three games in a row and have scored 21 goals in the process.

Lincoln City’s form has been inconsistent recently, with just one win in their last three games after picking up a 4-2 win against Northampton Town Ladies in the FA Cup. However, the six-time winners of the competition are still favourites to win the tie.

The Imps play their football one step higher than United and are currently positioned in second place of the FA Women’s National League Division 1 Midland. Lincoln United are currently fourth in the Premier Division of the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League.

Captain for Lincoln United, Katie Davison is a former player for Lincoln City and described her expectations for the game. She said: “It’s going to be a tough game against a strong Lincoln City side who currently play a full league above us and are doing well in Step 4.

“There is absolutely no pressure on us as a team or club, it’s all on them. They will be fit, athletic and technically good, we know that, but so are we.”

Speaking after their 3-3 draw against Sporting Khalsa last week, Lincoln City Manager Lee Mitchell said: “We’ve got a lot of positives to build on and if we do the right things during the game, we can put any team under pressure.”

The draw for the semi-final will take place next week and both teams will be eager to be in the pot for the next round.

Kick-Off is at 2pm tomorrow and tickets for the game are available on the Lincoln United website and can also be purchased on the day at Ashby Avenue with tickets being charged at £3 for adults, £2 for children under 16 and free entry for children under the age of 5.
