Toys R Us, including the one in Lincoln, has announced that it is now rebranding its items as gender free.

The change comes after protests by campaigners against the retailers labels of ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ toys.

Let Toys Be Toys campaigned for the movement for two years and are now focussing their work on other retailers.

They are petitioning WH Smith to drop ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ toys labels, and also want to stop the Early Learning Centre using pink and blue colours to separate gender specific toys.

The changes come after Mattel’s latest Barbie doll advertisement featured a boy playing with the doll.

Monika Jepchott, the Play Therapy UK Chief Executive, does not agree with the change.
