Train fares to increase in January

The government have announced that train companies will be able to raise the price of their tickets by 3.6% from January.

East Midlands trains have confirmed that they will be raising their fares by 3.3%.

Money from the ticket sales will go towards paying for the day-to-day running of the rail network, as well as investing in new improvements.

Jake Kelly, managing director of East Midlands Trains, said: “As well as helping to fund the biggest national investment in the railways since Victorian times, through increased payments to the government, the money from fares is also helping to drive many real improvements for customers across the East Midlands Trains network.”
