Students won a number of their categories including Video Journalism, Entertainment and Sport. Students also were Highly Commended in Vlogging, Online Innovation and Entertainment.
Chris Gray, who completed his degree in BA Journalism and is now at the BBC News Channel, won Video Journalist of the year, and was commended with a special award for his TV feature on young carers.
It caps a great few months for Chris, following on from his BJTC Award in November for best TV Documentary for the carer’s piece.
Chris said: “It was a really long piece of work to do and it was time consuming and at times difficult to make, but to be acknowledged that it was a good piece is really rewarding. But the films shows what young careers go through.”
“I would have not have won without the support from the staff at the University of Lincoln. They helped me make this the best this could be and spent time going through the writing and the frames with me.”
“During my three years at Lincoln they also took their time to help me improve my writing, without them I would not have won this award.”

The LSJ Sport team, headed by Adam Tomlinson and Liam Ray, took the sport category ahead of stiff competition from Staffordshire University. LSJ Sport has gone from strength to strength, reporting and featuring the likes of Lincoln City, Lincoln United and Lindum Hockey Club – gaining hundreds of followers and views alike along the way.
Adam said: “It was great to be at the Midland Media Student Awards and for LSJ Sport to be recognised for the content that we produce. I have a dedicated team of people who have worked with me to make LSJ Sport the best it can be.”
Danielle Skerrett, Lauren Chick and Becky Archer won the Entertainment award for ‘Frankie says I do’ – a group entry for their magazine project in their final year at Lincoln in the Entertainment category.
This is the second Midlands Media Awards, and it was headed by judges from Sky News, the NUJ and various media professionals and bodies, highlighting just how prestigious – and competitive these awards are.
