If you thought shopping on Christmas Eve was busy, think again. Black Friday is the name given to the day after Thanksgiving, and is one of the biggest shopping events of the year in America.

Black Friday is a day when most major retailers in the United States open extremely early and offer promotional sales to kick off the holiday season.

The craze has crossed the Atlantic Ocean, as a number of British shops have adopted the craze, including the Stormfront in Lincoln.

A number of websites are also taking part, with Internet giants, including Apple, providing discounts. Amazon is holding hourly deals, to attract customers to their site.

A spokesperson for the retailer said: “The inclusion of themed hours this year has helped customers find deals on the type of products they are looking for, from Christmas preparation essentials to Fashion and Beauty items.”
