Burns Night celebrations at Lincoln Drill Hall

Here at City Vibe we decided to go along and have a look at an event to celebrate the poet Robert Burns at the Lincoln Drill Hall.

The event was attended by around 50 people who decided to try their legs at Ceilidh dancing and their voices at singing.

Event organiser Liam Robinson said it was important to continue the tradition.

“He took stuff from ordinary people and turned it into great poetry, great literature”, Mr Robinson explained, “it’s a celebration of the culture of working people”.

Along with people trying dancing themselves, traditional Scottish singing and poetry also featured.

Kim Drabick teaches Ceilidh dancing professionally and showed the assembled audience how it was supposed to be done.

“I’ve done it for 17 years,” said Ms. Drabick, “…there’s quite a few to learn so it does take quite a few just to learn the shedding and different moves that you have to do.”

The evening was finished with the traditional song of Auld Lang Syne.
