1960’s Communist China was as strict at keeping foreigners out as it was keeping its own citizens in.

Very few people have first-hand experience of what China was like in the 60’s but one of the few was Shelia Norstom.

Now retired in quiet Berkshire after years of travelling the world, she told us the incredible story of how she not only went to China, but how she came back again.

Captive in Canton is a 6-part radio series which, with the help of historian and lecturer Dr Yee Wah Foo, looks at every aspect of her journey from her start Hong Kong, to her destination deep in Communist China.
