Cooking appliances are main cause of house fires in Lincoln

Almost half of all house fires in Lincoln originate from cooking appliances, according to Lincolnshire County Council.

They have revealed that 264 fires in Lincoln have been caused by ovens, hot plates, grills, toasters and microwaves, since 2008.

This is over four times more than those caused by deliberate ignition, which is the second highest cause of house fires.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue say this is due to how easy it is to start a fire in a kitchen.

Max Tunmore from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said: “We find the main cause is people getting distracted whilst their food is cooking.”
