Councils given power to Lapdancing Clubs

Councils have been given more power due to the change of category of lapdancing clubs.

As of April, lap-dancing clubs will be categorised as sex establishments. This will give local councils more power to act upon when responding to local residents who have concerns. Councils now have the ability to ban the opening of these clubs near schools or in quiet neighbourhoods.

At this current time, lapdancing clubs are in the same category as cafes and bars. This prevents the closure of them unless they attract crime or endanger the public.

Listen to what local lapdancing club owner Alex Buchanan had to say on the situation.
