An intense start and flying finish helped Ruston’s Sports FC come back from 2-1 down to a 9-2 victory away at Grimsby.

Ruston’s took the lead inside the third minute through Andy Janssen, but two quick goals from Dominic Beal and Kobe Grayson saw Theddo Lions turn the game around.

Ten minutes later a wonderful strike from Andy Janssen brought Ruston’s level.

Three goals in three minutes were to follow for the boys in blue dominating the game and taking back the lead comfortably.

After four changes early on into the second half the domination from the Ruston’s side continued, with a goal in the 52nd minute from Haydn Havard taking a strike from outside the box gliding into the top right-hand corner.

The goal spree continued minutes later as Haydn Havard scores again thanks to a cross from George Michie.

Ruston’s steadying the game as they sit comfortably in the lead.

A brilliant James Wilson set-up helped substitute Tom Nesbitt make it 8-2 in the 70th minute.

It was Nesbitt again to score the final goal from brilliant link up play with Wilson to round the game off.

Martin Langtry, Manager of Ruston’s Sports, said: “I’m really delighted to progress to the third round of the cup in such a professional manner.

“We are disappointed to concede two goals, but to put nine past a good Theddo Lions side shows our intent for the rest of the season and cup run.

“We know the league title is too far out of reach so hopefully we can go all the way in the county cup and win it.”

Ruston’s Sports Manager, Martin Langtry stood with Assistant Manager Declan Murphy.
