Knitting for Phd funding.

For one Lincoln man, knitting became more than a hobby when he found himself struggling to pay for his PhD.

Philip Skipper, a microbiology student, at the University of Lincoln decided to make knitting kits which allowed anyone of any age to pick up and learn the craft.

“I started knitting about 4 years ago, and like many others, the first thing I knitted was a scarf, it was pretty rubbish and I think it’s been thrown away now”

Philip has been selling the kits for 5 months for £10.This has so far funded 2 weeks of his PhD.

Alongside knitting, Philip is doing work on the antibiotic resistance of some microorganisms.
