Lincoln MP, Karl McCartney, has been criticised by the president of the University of Lincoln’s Students’ Union after he voted against the removal of the ‘tampon tax’ in Parliament on Tuesday.

Hayley-Jayne Wilkinson has asked Mr McCartney to explain why he voted against the abolition of a five per-cent tax on female sanitary products.

She told Siren FM: ” I have sent him a letter asking why he has voted against it and why he views menstruation as a luxury.”

Karl McCartney replied via Twitter saying that the claims were “completely mistaken, politically motivated and wrong.”
