A new study has found that one in five people in Lincoln now identify as a smoker.

These findings were released by the British Heart Foundation earlier this week as they urged people to stop smoking.

Now could be the perfect time as National Stop Smoking Day is set to hit the county on March 11th.

As a smoker I went to find out what National Stop Smoking Day is all about.

Research released by Cancer Research UK found that smoking is leading cause of preventable death in the UK claiming the lives of around 100,000 people a year on average.

There are many popular choices for people trying to quit the cancerous habit though schemes set up by the NHS. These include things like nicotine patches, chewing gum and even nasal sprays.

A new alternative to all of these treatments is sweeping the UK and is known as vaping.  Similar to the nicotine inhalers available on the NHS, vaporisers have flavoured nicotine fluid which prove popular with many smokers.

So why not try and quit the habit once and for all this year, just visit your GP or local pharmacy to find out more.
