Lincolnshire Police are warning young people over the dangers of ‘laughing gas.’

Lincolnshire Police have put out a warning about ‘laughing gas’ after numerous amount of bottles of the substance were found around the city of Lincoln.

Canisters of the nitrous oxide gas were taken from Boultham Park and Westwick Gardens in the last couple of days.

The Police have said that, along with partner agencies Officers are concerned with regards to the effect they will be having on users of the product.

What is nitrous oxide?

Nitrous oxide, known as laughing gas is a substance with many different uses in medicine and catering. It is also a very popular recreational drug amongst young people.

What are the risks?

Inhaling nitrous is dangerous and can lead to fainting, loss of blood pressure or even a heart attack. Long exposures to nitrous  oxide can result in bone marrow suppression and poisoning of the central nervous system. These risks are likely to be made worse if the gas is combined with alcohol or other drugs.
