New research from the University of Oxford has revealed that having a local pub makes you a happier person.

According to the Campaign for the Real Ale (CAMRA), who backed the research, those who are regulars at a pub are ‘significantly’ happier, have more friends and enjoy better life satisfaction.

The study looked at people’s interaction in pubs in Oxford and found that the nature of small, community pubs means that they are often visited by the same people regularly.

The report, highlighted the importance of face-to-face interaction and noted that people were more likely to be engaged in conversations in small community pubs rather than larger establishments.

People are able to quickly build up friendships and relations with staff, with pubs viewed as an ideal location for this.

The report also revealed how the regularity and relation with the pub means that regulars are less likely to drink excessively.

Vicky Clinkscale, Bar Supervisor at the Royal William in Lincoln, spoke to LSJ News.
