Traders on Lincoln’s Sincil Street say they’re feeling targeted and vulnerable after a recent spate of burglaries.

The reputation of the street has left shop owners fearing for the future of their businesses and some have even relocated.

Revival, Craft Centre, on Sincil Street has only been open for two months and has already reported five burglaries.

Angela Porter, manager of Revival said: “They actually took down a wall to get in, brick by brick.”

“One of the burglaries; they lifted the roof and climbed in. Somehow they had prised it away from its base and lifted it and crawled in.”

Scott Keeley, owner of Sincil Mobility, said: “They came round the back of the shop, took the door clean off its hinges, ransacked the kitchen, ransacked the shop and then only stole £17.60.”

Some shop owners are concerned about the drug and alcohol abuse in the local area and say that this too has been affecting their businesses.

Thousands of pounds have been spent by some of the shop owners in order to heighten the security surrounding their stores. Many have introduced CCTV, locked gates and intruder alarms in order to deter burglars.
