From April, all public health facilities will be passed on to the County Council.
Under new control by the County Council many services could be affected by the change. These include: Immunisation, drug recovery, sexual health, pregnancy and children’s health.
Central government have decided that the public health element of the NHS should be returned back to the local authority but it is unclear what policies will be put in place.
If people in Lincolnshire do not know of the change it may make it easier for the County Council to continue the services that are already in place for public health. However, surely new plans like this should be explained thoroughly to the public and everyone should be aware of the new system in place.
Councillor Sue Whoolly explained that the local authority are more than dedicated to maintaining and possibly improving public health in Lincolnshire. Many of the staff from the NHS will now be employed by the council and their expertise will be used to the full advantage.
