The initiative of new indoor kitchen bins has been labelled a success by Lincolnshire County Council.
Thousands of households have begun using the bins, identified by their unique orange lid.
The scheme began on March 30 with the aim of reducing the amount of food waste thrown away across the region.
In its first week alone, the initiative collected more than 165 tonnes of food waste.
Councillor Danny Books, chair of Lincolnshire Waste Partnership, said: “We know introducing something like this can take a little time to get used to, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as things settle in.”
“Every caddy present helps ensure food waste is put to good use for creating energy.”
All waste collected is transported to a factory where it will be turned into fertiliser to create renewable power.
Since it began last month, the initiative now collects bins across the City of Lincoln, North Kesteven and West Lindsey.
Residents in Boston Borough, East Lindsey and South Holland can expect the new bins to roll out to them in autumn later this year.
