Students cost fire brigade £40,000 in hoax calls

Students at the University of Lincoln have cost Lincolnshire fire and rescue department roughly £40,000 in the last five years. The sum mounts from the concerning 59 false call outs last year alone. With an hour of service costing up to 160 pounds this figure is quite concerning. The major concern however is the amount of time being spent on hoax calls, preventing the force from doing their job.

Dave Brocklesby, the community fire safety manager for the force admits that the price is worrying, however assures that measurements are in place in the hope of reducing this sum. Students at the University of Lincoln have been made aware of the dangers involved in false calls and have been seriously deterred away from doing so
