The future of Lincoln’s historic market

How the Cornhill will look after work has been completed

Lincoln’s historic Cornhill Market will close after 136 years in the city centre.

Plans to redevelop the Cornhill building were approved by the City of Lincoln council this week.

The market stalls will be replaced by a £12m shopping complex, which planners hope will drive even more people into the city centre.

As part of the plans, extensions on the front of the building, which is owned by Lincolnshire Co-Op, will be removed and its original façade revealed again.

Ursula Lidbetter, the Chief Executive of Lincolnshire Co-op, told us that the space “should be for everybody.”

Stallholders who trade from the market at the moment have been assured that they will be given help to find new premises.
