East Drayton FC are looking forward to playing at the home of Lincoln City next month in the Fred Quibell Junior Cup Final after beating Glebe United in Sunday’s semi-final.

The Lincoln and District League Division two side were only founded this season but will now play first Division club Shakespeare United, in the final on Wednesday May 6.

Matthew Ellison, assistant manager, is delighted for his team’s trip to the imps’ ground: “It’s brilliant, we wanted to be at Sincil Bank all season, so today we needed to put it right. Wasn’t our best performance but we worked our socks off for each other.”

East Drayton FC travelled to King George’s Field to face Glebe United who are two divisions below them.

The game ended in a 1-0 win for East Drayton, with the only goal coming from midfielder Ted Gibbon in the 76th minute.

Glebe United were the better side in the first half with a couple of chances hitting the post from striker Bett Oakley.

But in the second 45, East Drayton took control and applied pressure on Glebe United, which led to the decisive goal to send them to the final.

Glebe may have fallen short in their hopes to play at Sincil bank, but manager Joshua Stevens praised his side’s performance against a higher-division opposition.

He said “We’ve played teams in division 1, division 2 and we have beaten top of the table a couple of times. We turned up today expecting a tough game, we gave it our all and we had chances to win.”
