From March 1, home-owners looking to convert their property into shared accommodation will need planning permission.
The new imposed measures provide the council with more control over the location and amount of new shared tenancy properties in Lincoln.
Under the new rules, to gain planning permission to convert a home to shared accommodation, no more than 10% of houses within 100 metres can also be shared accommodation.
The change comes as part of an agreement made in December 2014 when residents raised concerns over the frequency of shared properties in specific areas.
Owners of shared housing are still being encouraged by the Council to declare their property on its website, to help aid the process of property management in the city.
