North Lincolnshire council are soon to ban electronic cigarettes in their buildings.
The change was suggested because of the high number of smokers switching over to the E-cigarette in public buildings.
Some restaurants have already banned the fake cigarettes because of the high number of complaints from non-smokers.
Council members say the ban was also proposed because using the fake cigarettes may give people the impression that it is okay to smoke and may influence the younger generations.
E-cigarettes are intended to be a healthier option to help smokers stop. The nicotine substitutes have been growing in popularity since their release in 2003.
E-cigarette user Anthony Cafferkey told LSJ News “I feel it is a way of criminalising electronic cigarettes, a blanket ban makes it sound like E-cigarettes are bad, evil and nasty when they help people to stop smoking.”
Some reports from late last year claim that the electronic cigarettes can damage your lungs. They claim that the vapour in the fake cigarettes can increase the resistance in your airways, blocking air from getting in and out of the lungs.
The government will decide later this year if stricter checks on this specific nicotine replacement therapy are needed once a broader study is conducted.
