It’s a ‘Merry Novembermas’ in Lincoln

Christmas has begun in November for some Lincoln residents.

With the last of the bonfire night fireworks creeping across the sky, there’s something else twinkling across Lincoln. In an effort to inject some cheer into Lockdown 2.0, some residents have put up their trees and hung their tinsel 43 days early. For many across Lincoln, it’s Merry Novembermas!

A recent poll of over 600 Lincoln residents on Facebook found that although 70 per cent of residents are waiting to put up their Christmas decorations, 30 per cent have already put them up or are planning to do so soon.

Heather McKeown, from north Lincoln, has put up her beautiful blush-coloured Christmas décor in line with her love of pink. After a gloomy year she wanted to bring some sparkle into her home. She said: “I just wanted to bring some festivity and happiness to our house! We have an elf visitor, have started doing Christmas crafts and have been enjoying hot chocolates with Christmas movies!

Some people think its mad, but it really isn’t hurting anyone, and I feel with all my youngest daughter has missed this year so far she deserves an extra month of excitement.”

Michaela Hayward, Lincoln, collects Christmas decorations whilst on her world travels and has brought them out early as a nod to all of the adventures she missed in 2020. She said: “we just love the feeling of being at home with pretty lights and cosiness and with another lockdown, why not enjoy actually being at home and make the most of it! It makes our house look pretty and makes us happy.”

Michaela’s dog, Alfie, also loves to get into the festive spirit.

Peter Clare, North Hykeham, is a Christmas celebrity across Lincoln. Each year Peter decorates his home in enough lights to be seen from space, in an effort to raise money for his charity of the year. This year he is fundraising for the NHS, and his lightshow can be seen at a safe social distance every night until January 7 at 5-9pm.

You can help with the fundraising efforts by donating on Peter’s JustGiving page.
