Lincoln ukulele band celebrate their first birthday.

Lincoln Ukulele Band celebrated their first birthday on Sunday with a party at Bishops Grosseteste University.

Over 200 ukulele players began the celebrations with a live performance of Sloop John B and Dedicated Follower of Fashion via video link, to Lincolns twin town in South Australia, Port Lincoln.

Ukulele bands from across the East Midlands gathered for the day.

Mayor of Lincoln, Brent Charlesworth was in attendance, and welcomed the audience Down Under saying, “All the very best to you in Port Lincoln, and lets hope we see some of you across here in this  fine city. It’s Magna Carta year here, so maybe we will see you in the summer, but all the very best to you”, which was met with a round of applause.

Esther Knight, a member of the band, said “It started out as a fairly simple idea, but it’s obviously grown.

“Don’t feel scared that you are too young or too old, our eldest member is 90 years old, and he is singing as strong as the rest of them.”

The band meet every Thursday from 7 o’clock at the community room in Tesco, Wragby Road, Lincoln.
