Lincolnshire fire and rescue have received ten new rescue boats. Lincolnshire is now one of the country’s most prepared areas for flooding.

The grant money for the project has been paid for by Defra’s (Department of environment, food and rural affairs) flood rescues grant scheme. Lincolnshire received £250,000 after applying for the money with Lincolnshire county council last year.

Flooding to the east coast is one of the biggest threats facing the county. The rescue boats will also be on hand to be used by the rest of the UK if extreme flooding occurs.

“The boats can be used for any water rescue but also for any major flooding not only for Lincolnshire as a county but for any national event”

The money has paid for the ten new rescue boats, as well as the equipment needed. A five year training programme has also been set up. Sixty personnel have been given the training needed so ten recue boats will be situated throughout the county at all times.
