Motorists are spending hundreds in repair bills

Motorists angry after spending hundreds of pounds on repair bills.

Suffolk Highways have come under fire after numerous potholes on Hamilton Road in Newmarket after several residents complained about tire damaging pot holes, only to be told they weren’t deep enough to be dealt with.

The road in question 1.6 miles long and has 7 potholes under review according to Suffolk Highways website.

Barry Petrie, who regularly drives on Hamilton Road during his commute to work said: “I had to get new abs breaks, which the mechanic said is directly from pothole damage. I’ve spent hundreds in car repairs over the years I have used that road and I’ve submitted paperwork to the council and Suffolk Highways but nothing ever gets done. Makes you wonder what they are spending our road tax money on.”

Suffolk Highways said: ‘We’ve received numerous reports of potholes on Hamilton Road, some of which have been scheduled for repair. We welcome residents to use our website to report others they feel have not been attended.’

“The way we define a pothole is based upon the HMOP, which is essentially a risk assessment based upon location, road category and severity of the possible defect.”
