Why did we suddenly get heavy snow?

Over the last few days, heavy snow has fallen across the country. In Lincolnshire a number of roads have been closed after being blocked or deemed impassable by Lincolnshire Police.

But why are we getting Siberian weather when we should be enjoying the early stages of spring?
