There’s an old saying that a dog is a man’s best friend. But for some people, having a dog can actually change their life. It’s common to hear about guide dogs, rescue dogs, police dogs and hearing dogs. But now, researchers at the University of Lincoln are finding out whether having a dog can help children with autism and their families.
We spoke to Dr. Hannah Wright, a researcher who is in charge of the field work for the study.
A real life example of the benefits owning a pet dog can have is the Owen family. Harry, 5, is autistic, and has shown improvement since they got their dog, Fran, two years ago.
