Over 2,500 people in Lincoln and more than 1.5 million people across the UK have signed an online petition calling for President Trump’s UK visit to be cancelled.
At one stage the petition was being signed by more than one thousand people a minute.
A map showing signatories per constituency as a percentage of votes cast at the last general election shows that Hackney South and Shoreditch, and Hackney North, Stoke Newington and Brighton have the highest percentage of votes.
As the petition has reached more than 100,000 signatures it will be debated in Parliament, but currently there are mixed views from the Prime Minister and Jeremy Corbyn.
Corbyn has sided with the petition saying that Trump shouldn’t be made welcome in the United Kingdom because he: “abuses our shared values with his shameful Muslim ban and attacks on refugees’ and women’s rights”.
Theresa May, on the other hand said that to prevent President Trump from attending the country would be against Britain’s best interest.
A rival petition has now been started arguing that Trump should make a state visit. This online petition has reached over 100,000 signatures and will now be discussed in Parliament alongside the original petition.
