Lincolnshire County Council says progress is being made on the city’s long-awaited eastern bypass project.
Work is continuing on the Lincoln Eastern Bypass with a bridge over the Market Rasen rail line being built and a temporary bridge over the River Witham opening up for construction traffic.
In an update, the council summarized the achievements for January which include, continued construction of the Greetwell Road roundabout, continued piling works for new permanent River Witham Viaduct, and completing cabling and civils works for BT diversion on Greetwell Road.
Road closures and traffic restriction were also outlined in the update, including weekend-only road closures on B1188 Lincoln Road from 6:30pm on Friday until 6am on Monday until April 2019, full closure of Heighington Road and Bloxholm Lane, and temporary speed restrictions on Washingborough Road, Greetwell Road, Lincoln Road and Hawthorn Road.
The wheels were put in motion for Lincoln’s Eastern bypass when planning permission was submitted by the council in December 2012 with main construction beginning in June 2017.
The project was dealt a blow after Carrillion – who was the preffered contractor for the project – went into liquidation in January 2018. The county council terminated its contract with the company and selected construction firm, Galliford Try to take over works.
The update also detailed what work would be carried out this month, including substantial work with Virgin Media and BT to divert cables at Lincoln Road and carrying out enabling works for Anglian Water diversion at Washingborough Road.
The eastern bypass is due to be completed in May 2020.
