For centuries, Britain has run on tea – but is this still the case?
A survey has shown that the amount of tea being bought by the average family in the UK has gone down by 60% in the last 40 years.
So is coffee taking over from our old favourite?
With busier lifestyles, perhaps people need the caffeine boost coffee provides to get through the day.
The rise of coffee shops on the high street could also be a factor.
But the people of Lincoln won’t be giving up tea any time soon.
Stokes is Lincoln’s oldest tea and coffee producer, and manager Rosa Johnson said, “We’re known for getting all of own coffees, but what is becoming more and more popular is the unusual teas.
“We’ve got a really good bog standard breakfast tea, but people these days are trying more of the herbal teas and the flavoured ones.
“So I would say coffee is definitely the strongest for us, but its the unusual teas that are sneaking their way through.”
Tea is still fuelling UK offices, so it seems it will continue to be a British favourite.
