Frecklington delighted with ‘massive’ Lincoln United win

Lincoln United manager, Dave Frecklington, praised his players’ attitude after last night’s win over Basford United.

A late Sean Wright header saw the Whites grab a crucial 1-0 victory against their playoff rivals in the Evo-Stik First Division South on Tuesday night.

“Tonight I thought we were at it from minute one,” Frecklington said. “The boys were quiet tonight but I knew they were focused. We were bang at it, winning first and second balls.”

“I thought we totally dominated the game until Jordan Lemon’s sending off.”

The Whites were reduced to 10 men with 20 minutes remaining when Jordan Lemon was sent off but against the odds they found a late winner when defender Wright headed in Robert Norris’ corner from close range.

“I was thinking we were up against it after the sending off,” admitted Frecklington. “But Robert Norris put in a quality delivery. He and Sean Wright seem to have a love affair going on at the minute – he sets him up nearly every week.”

“It was a great goal in injury time and it made it hard for them to come back into the game. It’s a massive win,” Frecklington said.

The win means fifth placed United could close the gap on Basford to five points and they still have two games in hand on their opponents.

“Winning a game in hand tonight is really important for us,” said Frecklington.

“It opens the gap again to Spalding in eighth. I think there’s three or four teams in it but we’ve just got to focus on ourselves.”
