The ‘Lincoln Run4Ukraine’ has been organised by the Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia and will take place from 11am on Sunday, April 3rd.

All funds that are raised will go entirely to three charities: Disasters Emergency Committee, ShelterBox, and Médecins Sans Frontières.

Event Organiser, Ray Peters, said: “These charities have been instrumental in Ukraine, being there from the start. They run towards disasters when others are running away.”

Organisers of the event also run the annual SantaFunRun, which has taken place every December since 2006, excluding 2020 when it was cancelled due to the national lockdown.

Russia invaded Ukraine on the 24th February 2022, this is how the world has been affected.

The Rotary Club created this edition so that Lincoln locals can show their support for the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Those taking part have been encouraged to wear yellow and blue, however, organisers have strictly said that it is a ‘non-political’ event.

Expenses have also been kept to a minimum with nearly all the suppliers providing everything free of charge, including the St John’s Ambulance.

The Mayor of Lincoln, Jackie Kirk, will start the event in Westgate, and runners will follow a route of 1.1km round to Minster Yard. Those taking part can complete one, two, or three laps.

Lincoln resident, Hattie Allinson, is one of those taking part: “Everyone feels so terrible and we all want to do our bit to help so I think it’s really important. It’s nice to see Lincoln coming together as a community as well.”

There is a registration fee of £10, and donations can be made on the day, via the website, or by texting RUNUKRAINE to 70085.
