‘I couldn’t find a community, so I created one.’

"We are the Change will go more national. Yes, we started in University of Lincoln  but in the future We are the Change will have York and Bristol so it is all going to turn as a really a national exchanging knowledge platform because everyone has different experiences so all we need to get them in the community so we can make more impact all together,” Bahar Tömek

The ground floor of the David Chiddick building filled with students, staff members, and business owners, all anticipating the launch event- We Are the Change.

The Global Experiences team, located in Lincoln’s International Business School, started the event by 4pm on March 14. The team introduced MBA student and visionary, Gülbahar Tömek: an international student, better known as Bahar:

“We always need more support for our ideas… I failed because I didn’t have the support I needed, which is how I am here today.”

We Are the Change is a network of students, business professionals and women entrepreneurs looking to aide individuals with their businesses in Lincoln.

The event had four other speakers ranging from university lecturers and entrepreneurs all active in Lincoln’s business development. Each speaker shared their stories of how they met Bahar, why they support We are the Change, and what they can provide.

“You may have an idea, you may not have the confidence to work through the idea but Bahar is going to be there to support you, guide you with bits of information that you may need and put you in touch with other people… it’s kind of an organic process,” explained Kerry Gibson, textile artist and owner of Lincoln’s Rethread Denim.

“There is mentoring, events, and legal workshops. We have many programmes, even one for businesses across all of greater Lincolnshire, where we provide support and aide for developing businesses,” said contributing speaker, Mikey Coulson, Student Enterprise Co-ordinator.

We Are the Change’s next event is March 29 and it is open to students, staff and anyone in Lincoln who is interested in personal marketing and networking.
