Lincoln’s Usher Gallery is currently playing host to an art exhibition featuring highly detailed and intimate images of people including David Attenborough, Michael Douglas, Chris Ryan, Christopher Lee and Boris Johnson.

Andy Weekes‘ “Viewpoints: Faces” collection will be available to see until May 7 and entry is free.

Andy is a freelance photographer who has worked for the national daily newspapers and photographed Team GB at the 2012 Olympics. His latest exhibition showcases his love of portraits, featuring close-ups of celebrity faces.

In this interview, LSJ reporter Sam Atkin speaks to Andy about his photography style and what it was like to work with the subjects of the portraits.

The exhibition showcases black-and-white photography at its very best. The light (or lack thereof) brilliantly highlights the ageing in the faces of each portrait’s subject.

The minimal imagery captures the strains put upon the human face and the overall aesthetic of the exhibition blends beautifully into Andy’s portraits.

From the harrowed look of Chris Ryan, Bravo Two Zero survivor, to the gentle, warm smile of national treasure David Attenborough, each portrait captures something unique, and tells a different story.

Other portraits in Andy’s collection include Simon Callow and Richard Briers.

The Usher Gallery is open 10-4 daily.
