Lincoln City Foundation: DSActive and World Down Syndrome Day

Football is uniting with charity to show support for World Down Syndrome Day thanks to the Lincoln City Foundation.

The charity partner of Lincoln City provide an array of services for the community, including a specific Down Syndrome football session, DSActive.

DSActive provides weekly football sessions at Deans Sport and Leisure Centre, at Lincoln College, for those with Down Syndrome, giving them the opportunity to get involved within the sport.

This is part of the Foundation’s ‘inclusion’ initiative to give everyone a fair and equal right to play sport.

World Down Syndrome Day falls on March 21 each year. People with Down Syndrome and those who work alongside them get together and take part in events to raise the awareness of those with the condition, ensuring that they have the same opportunities as everyone else.

One popular feature of World Down Syndrome Day is the #LotsOfSocks campaign, in which people are encouraged to wear brightly coloured socks, mismatching socks or even three pairs of socks – three socks for three chromosomes, to represent the extra chromosome that causes the condition. They are then encouraged to share photos and videos of their socks alongside the #LotsOfSocks.
