Some 5,500 miles of Lincolnshire’s roads are in disrepair but the council plans to cut its road fixing budget.
Residents claim streets are ‘plagued’ and road surfaces are ‘deteriorating’, but while the Council fix approximately 110,500 potholes every year, a recent decision will see less time and money put into highways altogether.
A Lincolnshire resident, unhappy with the decision, is David Mcginty who set up the ‘Pothole Watch’ Facebook group to bring awareness to problem areas in Lincoln. When David owned a sports car, he said he ‘became a regular at the wheel repair company’ and he told us about his struggle when it came to reporting potholes to the Council.
“Road surfaces are deteriorating at an alarming rate,” said David, “I tried contacting the Highways Department and hit a brick wall. The potholes are repaired and then they’re out again 2 months later, it’s just a temporary fix.”
Pothole repairs have been branded a ‘mammoth’ and ‘never ending’ task by County Councillor Tom Ashton but while he found the decision ‘disappointing’, he explained he is more than happy, as a local Councillor, to help out and chase up any repairs that may have been missed.
“Residents should make sure that the potholes they are concerned about are reported on Fix My Street,” Councillor Tom Ashton said. “This is the most effective way of making sure the teams know where they are and can get them repaired.”
